• The London Borough of Tower Hamlets carried out an internal review of young
people’s services
• the study identified a key communications gap: no one document explained to
children what services they could access where

• working with Cube Consulting, who were engaged in the broader review process, we
came up with the idea of a pocket-sized directory
• careful data analysis underpinned our design proposal, which aimed to put the
right information at the readers’ fingertips quickly and easily

The front cover of the A6 sized booklet folds out to show a colour coded map of
Tower Hamlets. Each shade corresponds to a section of the book for easy
browsing while simple stick-figure illustrations hallmark different types of
leisure activities and services. With a space to write notes and keep telephone
numbers at the back, the booklet has a fun ‘street’ look and feel designed to appeal to its target audience.
